I have to give my sister credit, because she&#8217;s the one who always does the research and then convinces me [drags my butt] to do it. But, why do we do it? I wanted to reflect on this today and came up with these reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We believe in the cause &#8211; whether they&#8217;re marathons [Charleston&#8217;s only marathon, (the first and third)] or for growth [BarcampCHS 2 consecutive years now]<\/li>\n<li>We get to meet new people<\/li>\n<li>We learn something new about ourselves and about people<\/li>\n<li>We learn something new about ourselves &#8211; how organized [or grumpy] we are in the morning<\/li>\n<li>We learn something new about other people [who is\/isn&#8217;t a morning person]<\/li>\n<li>We get outside of our comfort zone<\/li>\n<li>We see what we are made of in these situations<\/li>\n<li>We get to experience what other pepople are made of too [marathons &#8211; especially!]<\/li>\n<li>We experience first hand that it is better to give than to receive<\/li>\n<li>We try to enjoy the experience, no matter what<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>While there are several other charities to support, below are a handful of local and global opportunities that I&#8217;ve personally been involved in, by donating my time or money].<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Operation Christmas Child\" href=\"http:\/\/www.samaritanspurse.org\/what-we-do\/operation-christmas-child\/\" target=\"_blank\">Operation Christmas Child<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Toys For Tots\" href=\"http:\/\/www.toysfortots.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Toys for Toys<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Lowcountry Food Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lowcountryfoodbank.org\/volunteer\" target=\"_blank\">Lowcountry Food Bank<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Charleston Animal Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.charlestonanimalsociety.org\/how-you-can-help\/\" target=\"_blank\">Charleston Animal Shelter<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Love Gave\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lovegave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">LoveGave<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Charleston Marathon\" href=\"http:\/\/charlestonmarathon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Charleston Marathon<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How about you, what do you for giving back to your community or online community?
